Carbuyer Car of the Year Awards 2017

Carbuyer is an independent company in the motor industry that helps you to decide which car you should buy next with helpful buying guides, detailed video test drives, expert car reviews and car news. Every year they give out awards for different categories including the top prize of Car of the Year.

The winners for 2017 have now been announced and there are a number of cars available at Wilsons that have won an award this year.

Car of the Year 2017 - Peugeot 3008 SUV

This year the top award goes to the brand-new Peugeot 3008 SUV thanks to its combination of excellent practicality, efficient engines, chic styling and stunning interior.

The 3008 SUV has been completely redesigned from its predecessor, the 3008, not least because it has now become a fully-fledged member of the SUV category rather than a crossover.

Peugeot have put a lot of thought into the new design of the 3008 SUV, especially on the inside where every model is fitted with the clever i-Cockpit dashboard on a 12.3" screen displaying your speed, navigation, phone and audio information.

Not only did the 3008 SUV scoop the top prize, it also drove away with the SUV of the Year title for 2017 as well!

Family Car of the Year 2017 - Vauxhall Astra

Straight off the back of an award winning year in 2016, the Vauxhall Astra has started 2017 in a similar fashion by scooping Best Family Car in the Carbuyer awards.

In production since 1979, the Astra is now in its seventh generation which is arguably its best yet! It has already picked up a number of accolades including European Car of the Year 2016 and WhatCar? Family Car of the Year 2016.

A great family car needs to be capable of carrying the whole family around with plenty of space for all passengers and everything they need. It also needs to be economical in terms of fuel and price so that it doesn't place a strain on a family's finances. Last but not least, it also needs to provide an enjoyable driving experience.

The Astra does all of this and more with a wide range of engines and excellent technology including Vauxhall's OnStar concierge service to keep you connected anywhere and everywhere.

Seven-Seater of the Year 2017 - Citroën Grand C4 Picasso

Much like the Astra, the Citroën Grand C4 Picasso is used to winning awards having taken the Auto Express Best MPV in 2016. It can now add Carbuyers Best Seven-Seater to its trophy cabinet.

Traditionally, MPVs, People Carriers or whatever term you want to use to describe them have been quite boxy and dull in design to make sure that there was enough room to transport everyone and everything it needed to. However, the Grand C4 Picasso is proof that this segment has turned a corner and seven-seaters don't need to be boring on the outside or the inside.

Citroën have designed the Grand C4 Picasso to have more than 2,000 litres of storage room with seat rows two and three folded down. There is also plenty of space if you need to use the seats for seven people to travel in comfort.

It is reasonably priced so it won't break the bank and has an efficient model that is capable of producing emissions of less than 100g/km (which means £0 road tax) and more than 74mpg!

Electric Car of the Year 2017 - Renault ZOE

In November 2016, Renault announced that their flagship electric vehicle, ZOE, was getting an upgrade making it capable of achieving up to 250 miles of range thanks to its new Z.E. 40 battery.

The new 41kWh version also comes with an optional fast charger that enables you to charge your ZOE up to 80 percent in just over an hour. Because it is an electric car, the ZOE automatically has a number of benefits including zero emissions which means £0 road tax now and even when the changes come into force from April 2017. ZOE owners also don't have to pay the congestion charge and receive instant torque which means that they can pull away faster.

As a car itself, the ZOE receives Renault's R-Link multimedia system including satellite navigation (on higher spec models), keycard entry, cruise control and a speed limiter. It is great to drive around town and offers five-door practicality coupled with immense ease-of-use.

Tow Car of the Year and Winter Car of the Year - Dacia Duster

Winning awards from Carbuyer will not come as a surprise to those at Dacia having received Car of the Year 2013 and Best Small SUV 2014 for their Duster model. The affordable 4x4 has scooped another two awards winning Best Tow Car and Best Winter Car for 2017.

Starting from just £9,495, the Duster is the most affordable SUV on the UK market and has previously won awards from the Caravan Club for its towing capabilities. Its robust and rugged design combined with its unrivalled value and user friendliness is a winning combination for car buyers everywhere.

Manufactured in Romania, the Dacia range is very capable in the colder weather that other vehicles tend to struggle in. The Duster is easy to drive, small and rugged making it the perfect companion during the winter months. Four-wheel drive versions provide remarkable grip with little impact on already low running costs.
