e-POWER or Mild Hybrid - The choice is yours!

The new Nissan Qashqai gives you total freedom of choice that enables you to select the perfect car for your needs. With two powertrain options to choose from, either e-POWER or Mild Hybrid - the Qashqai is the ideal solution for any driver. What is the difference between them? Let's explore the technologies in further detail.

e-POWER

A technology unique to Nissan. e-POWER uses a petrol engine and lithium ion battery to power an electric motor – the electric motor alone drives the wheels. It responds similarly to an electric car, providing instant torque and also has lower tailpipe emissions and running costs compared to a traditional combustion engine, but without the need to plug it in. In addition to the petrol engine, e-POWER also uses regenerative braking to help keep the battery topped up.

You don’t need to plug-in an e-POWER vehicle. The petrol engine produces energy that charges the battery when the vehicle needs it. The petrol engine produces energy that can either be directly supplied to the electric motor or to recharge the battery. The electric motor alone drives the vehicle's wheels giving an electric feeling drive at all times.

Mild Hybrid

Mild hybrid use a petrol engine to power the wheels with a lithium battery providing support. Stop-start technology increases efficiency by shutting the engine off when the car is coasting, or when lifting the foot off the pedal at speeds under 11 mph on automatic transmission, reducing tailpipe emissions and running costs. Mild Hybrid POWER offers an all-round improvement in efficiency thanks to the smart regeneration system. While the car is in motion and slowing down, kinetic energy is captured and used to recharge the battery.

With regenerative braking, energy that might normally wear down the brake pads is put to good use. While idle or coasting, the battery takes over, powering the car's electrical equipment so the engine can shut off more often, improving your fuel efficiency. Now that you have a better understanding of the two types of Nissan engine technologies, you are able to make a choice that suits your driving needs best.
