Our Handover Process

Buying a new car is an exciting process whether it is your first or your tenth, but there are some formalities, processes and documents that you need to be aware of. Firstly, delivery times of your new car will vary depending on if it is brand new, pre-registered or used. For a brand new car that is being built to your desired specification, a six week lead time is not unusual. For cars in high demand, the waiting list can be closer to six months.

Although pre-registered and used cars already have pre-determined specifications, you will not be able to drive the car away on the same day as agreeing to buy it. This is because we require some time to be able to prepare the car, so it is in optimal condition for you when you come to collect it. We will agree a collection time with you and update you if there are any delays that will affect your agreed handover appointment.

There is also a lot of documentation associated with new and used car purchases, so we want to dedicate the time to preparing the paperwork and making sure that it is all ready for you when you come in.

Documentation

In order to ensure a smooth handover process, it is important for you to bring the documents listed below with you to your handover appointment:

  • Method of payment for the final balance (no physical cash please).
  • Drivers license/passport for finance sign out (if applicable).
  • Your documents handed to you by your sales executive on the day of deposit.
  • Insurance for the vehicle you are collecting.
  • If part-exchanging please bring your current V5 (red in colour), current MOT certificate, service history, user manual and all available keys.

Checklist

As well as all the documents you need to bring, we have our own checklist to work through. This is to make sure that we’ve received all the documentation we need and that you’ve received all the information and documentation that you need.

Our checklist includes showing you the controls and equipment on your new vehicle; making sure you are completely happy with the condition of the vehicle; explaining service intervals and introducing you to the Service Centre so that you are familiar with its location and the staff who work there.

Typically, handovers can take anywhere between thirty minutes to an hour. If you have any time restrictions it is always best to inform your handover specialist, so that they can accommodate you. If you have any other questions regarding the handover process, do get in touch with one of our handover specialists, by calling 01372 736 000.
