Are you ready to join the electric revolution? Renault's all-electric ZOE embodies all of the things there is to love about an electric car:
Debuting at the Paris Motor Show, the electric hatchback was designed from the ground up as an electric car, but that is not to say that it isn't still a Renault.
The instantly recognisable Renault diamond has a secondary purpose on ZOE. It is hinged to reveal an essential feature, the car's socket for the battery charger.
In addition to the Zircon Blue metallic paint added in 2016, ZOE will be available in three new colours for 2017 - Mars Red, Titanium Grey and Ytrium Grey. The Renault logo and badging will revert back to chrome for these new colours as opposed to the blue that is standard across the rest of the ZOE range.
ZOE's electric identity has been highlighted in the blue effect applied to the Renault logo, headlights, tail lights and tinted windows across the range. Unlike conventional cars, ZOE's rear lights are transparent with concentric blue circles that only change to red when braking to give the car a strong electric identity.
Thanks to its built-in rear door handles, ZOE has the streamlined appearance of a coupé. All of the handles have been branded with the designers fingerprint.
ZOE was designed for motion with its neat, sculpted forms, long wheelbase and high waistline. Its aerodynamics have been taken to a more advanced level than standard programme processes to reduce its drag coefficient and improve ZOE's agility and dynamism.
Rather than thirsting for performance, ZOE's interior inspires a calming atmosphere for those taking pride in consuming less. Pale colours dominate the interior design in order to create a relaxing ambiance for the driver and any additional passengers.
With a nod to renewable energy, the central band across the dashboard is shaped like the blade of a wind turbine. The driver's headrest also sports the logo inspired by electric trains, together with the Z.E. signature.
As standard, ZOE comes equipped with a 7" touch screen infotainment system that includes TomTom LIVE navigation, FM tuner, Bluetooth audio streaming and voice control. Renault's R-Link technology is integrated into the touch screen with a range of dedicated motoring apps including ZOE's driving range, your driving efficiency and the location of the nearest charging points.
Renault ZOE boasts SIX world firsts:
Over the course of its development, more than sixty patents were registered to ensure that ZOE showcases Renault's electric vehicle expertise and incorporated advanced electric vehicle technology.
Renault have developed two new apps for Renault Z.E. owners for 2017. Z.E. Trip allows drivers to locate all public charging points in a number of European countries and it indicates the real-time availability of each charging point, as well as its type and compatibility with ZOE. The app can be accessed directly via the R-LINK navigation system using the steering-wheel mounted controls or in advance via the internet.
The second app developed by Renault is Z.E. Pass which makes charging at most public charging points in Europe easier even though they are owned by various operators. Without being a registered member of each network, this app allows users to locate available charging points and compare prices.
New-Generation Regenerative Braking
ZOE's battery is charging even when you are driving it. The new-generation regenerative braking system stores kinetic energy under deceleration and braking and then converts it into current to charge the battery. Developed in association with Bosch, this innovation is a world first.
MICHELIN ENERGY™ E-V Tyre
In a joint venture between Renault and Michelin, ZOE is the first vehicle equipped with the E-V tyre. The highly energy-efficient tyre enhances vehicle range and combines energy savings, safety and durability. Available for 15" and 16" wheels, it was awarded the maximum rating (A) for low rolling resistance and grip on wet roads.
Climate Control System
ZOE's heat pump provides excellent thermal comfort in the cabin, but also optimises vehicle range. As there is no internal combustion engine, there is no waste heat available for heating the cabin. By operating in the same way as reverse air conditioning, the heat pump uses less energy to do this than alternative electric heaters.
Chaméléon Battery Charger
Patented by Renault, the Chaméléon battery charger fits beneath the bonnet and is compatible with all power levels up to 43kW. As a result, ZOE can charge up to 80% of the battery's maximum capacity in as little as 30 minutes. This considerably simplifies the technology necessary for high-power battery charging stations.
ZOE is fitted with a lithium-ion battery that offers great performance, is simple to charge and can even be recycled at the end of its life. All retail customers will receive a Z.E.-ready fast-charging wall-box with free home installation which will allow you to charge your ZOE from flat to 100% in as little as three to four hours. You can charge your ZOE at a number of locations thanks to its Chaméléon charger that is compatible with various power sockets and sources. You can charge:
ZOE's battery is has been updated for 2017 and will be capable of covering 250 miles on a single charge. The new Z.E.40 battery has almost double the capacity of the existing one but it is no larger or heavier. By working closely with LG Chem the battery uses high-energy density lithium-ion technology. The storage capacity has been optimised by increasing the energy density of individual cells rather than adding more battery modules. It is estimated that the new Z.E.40 battery has a real-world range of between 186 miles in temperate conditions and 124 miles in extreme cold conditions.
With the introduction of the Z.E.40, ZOE is now offered with a choice of two batteries with the existing 22kW battery coming as standard with the entry level Expression Nav. Regardless of trim level, the ZOE is available to purchase in two ways: it can be bought outright including the battery, or buyers can lease the car and battery on a monthly basis. Battery lease payments are banded and reflect estimated annual mileage ensuring drivers only pay for what they need:
|Annual Mileage||Up to 4,500 Miles||Up to 6,000 Miles||Up to 7,500 Miles||Up to 9,000 Miles||Up to 10,500 Miles||Unlimited|
