Motability is a registered charity that aims to keep disabled people and war pensioners mobile by leasing a new car in exchange for the government-funded mobility allowance.
Over 640,000 people benefit from the scheme today – so how do you know if you’re eligible to take part? Well, if you receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (HMRC DLA), the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment (EMRC PIP), the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or the Armed Forces Independent Payment (AFIP), then you will be.
Despite common misconceptions, there is no upper age limit for eligibility. In fact, a third of customers are aged 65 and over. As long as you receive one of the allowances listed above, then you are eligible for the scheme. To double check, you can always get in touch with one of the Motability specialists here at Wilsons Epsom, or use the Motability Eligibility Checker found here.
Even if you can’t personally drive, you can still use your mobility allowance to lease a car on the Motability scheme. The worry-free package includes insurance for up to two named drivers which could be carers, family or friends.
If you are in need of assistance to verify whether you are eligible for the allowance, please get in touch with Wilsons Epsom and ask to speak to a Motability specialist.
