ALFA ROMEO TONALE PLUG-IN HYBRID Q4 

With the launch of the new Tonale, Alfa Romeo set a path for a new modern direction. 2023 will bring the Italian brand's first Plug-In Hybrid with the New Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV. This model will look like the rest of the Tonale range, but will bring the added benefit of being a Plug-In Hybrid. 

Design 

From a design perspective, the new Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-In Hybrid will look identical to the rest of the Tonale range which is no bad thing at all as it is an elegant and attractive design. Performance 

The new Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 provides the traditional Alfa Romeo driving dynamics with a smooth response and acceleration thanks to it's hybrid technology. The advanced hybrid system combines the new 1.3 litre MultiAir turbo petrol engine which provides traction to the front wheels - with the electric motor sending the power to the rear wheels. The electric motor offers an output of 90kW peak power and a torque level of 250 Nm. 

The new Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV delivers 280HP which supplies a brisk level of performance with a 0-62mph time in only 6.2 seconds. The new Tonale Plug-In Hybrid can reach a top speed of 83mph in full electric mode, and up to 128mph top speed in Hybrid Mode. With 26g/km CO2 emissions and 235 mpg consumption in the combined WLTP cycle, the Tonale Plug-In Hybrid can cover up to 42 miles, and up to 50 miles in the urban electric mode with the added benefit of zero emissions. The full combined range, which is the petrol engine and electric motor, means that the new Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 can cover 370 miles. The Tonale's "power looping" technology allows the Q4 system to work even if the 15.5kWh battery is low. The P1 eMotor will charge the battery allowing P4 to continue to work. 

Efficiency 

Like most Plug-In Hybrid vehicles, the new Tonale PHEV Q4 offers a wide range of electric vehicle features which have been designed to improve the vehicle's overall efficiency:

E-SAVE - Maintains the battery charge or charges it while driving using the internal combustion engine. The E-Save mode supports two different modes: "Battery Save" (Passive E-SAVE) which maintains the state of charge of the battery through the predominant use of the internal combustion engine. There is also "Battery Charge! (Active E-SAVE) that charges the battery up to 3 selectable levels through the operation of the internal combustion engine on which the combined front electric generator acts. 

Regenerative braking - This helps to recover kinetic energy during all deceleration or braking phases. It is always active regardless of the driving mode to maximise energy recovery when the throttle and brake pedals are released. The energy stored in the battery pack instead of being dissipated as heat on the brake discs. 

E-Coasting - This intervenes in place of the exhaust brake when the throttle is released, allowing energy recovery when slowing down even with the brake pedal released. 

Sustainable Energy 

The new Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 is equipped with a 306v lithium-ion, nickel-cobalt battery with a 15,5kWh capacity. This battery is fitted with a dedicated heating and refrigerant gas cooling circuit to keep the battery at its optimum temperature. Importantly, the battery can get a full charge in only 2.5 hours when using the 7.4kW fast charger.
