Save Money, Avoid the Congestion Charge

Avoid the fees to drive in Central London with a Congestion Charge-exempt car. If you are having to look at returning to work but wanting to avoid public transport to stay safe, why not look at buying a Congestion Charge-exempt car or van? As the congestion charge rises there has never been a better time for those who commute in to London to look at alternative fuel vehicles. Congestion Charge-Exempt vehicles will not only save you money and keep you safe, but may even work out as a cheaper method of travel than public transport for some commuters.

If you drive into central London on weekdays, then you'll be obliged to pay the Congestion Charge. Costing £11.50 a day (or £10.50 if you set up an Auto Pay account), or around £2,500 in a working year.

Therefore, why not have a look at some Congestion Charge-exempt cars? If you’re commuting into the capital Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm when the charge is in effect, then you could in effect drive around London for free* - avoiding other emissions-related charges such as the ULEZ - if you choose an electric or hybrid-powered car.

free* minus the annual £10 TFL fee.

If you're looking to make even more savings, bear in mind that electric cars also qualify for a government electric car grant, worth up to £3,000 off the purchase price.
