New Year's Resolutions For Car Owners

7 New Year's Resolutions Car Owners Should Follow Leading Into 2022

We at Wilsons Epsom hope you're having a great festive holiday with friends and family and are feeling refreshed for a brand new year!

The new year is a fabulous time to set news year's resolutions to help better ourselves throughout the year.

Whatever your new year's resolutions may be, we believe that you should take your car into consideration too. While making resolutions for your health, lifestyle and work are great. Incorporating a few for your car is even better! The majority of people drive their car every day, therefore it's important keep your car well-maintained.

Learn good driving habits and help yourself become a better car owner with 7 New Year's Resolutions for 2022:

1. Keep your car clean

You do not have to maintain your vehicle in showroom condition, but an occasional cleaning will help keep the interior and exterior looking good. Remove stains on your upholstery and wash off roads salts and grime that can harm the paint and you will extend the longevity of your vehicles paint and appearance.

2) Learn how to jump-start a vehicle

Knowing how to jump-start a car will save you some frustration if you have a dead battery. You will also feel recognition after jump-starting another person's vehicle and getting them out on the road again. It is always smart to keep a set of jumper cables in your vehicle.

3) Drive safely

Every year, more than 1.35 million people die on the world's roads and millions more are seriously injured. By removing distractions while driving, such as using your phone, and avoid driving when tired, can help save lives and make a massive difference to yourself and road safety. 4) Prioritise car maintenance

While sticking to a New Year’s diet plan might be a bit of a challenge, following your car’s service schedule doesn’t have to be. This year, why not pledge to keep on top of your car’s servicing plan? Doing so will help you avoid unexpected repair bills and breakdowns. Wilsons Epsom have a 5 star manufacturer approved service centre equipped to maintain your vehicle to the highest standard.

5) Learn to do basic car checks

Learning how to carry out basic car checks is important for all car-owners as it could prevent you from car repairs, dangerous driving and the worry that your car could break down whilst on the road. We recommend that you learn how to: check your fluid levels (oil, coolant, washer fluid etc), tyre pressure, brakes and being aware of any un-natural noises coming from your car. If you're still unsure when checking your car, then seek professional advice. Attempting any work on your car can lead to it being dangerous and costly, if not carried out correctly, so please take careful actions and don't carry out the work yourself if in doubt.

6) Save on fuel costs

The price of fuel is notoriously volatile with a litre sometimes going up or down by as much as 5p in just a month. To get the most out of your fuel tank and reduce the expense, you can drive more economically, maintain your car correctly and consider purchasing a more economical car.

7) Drive green by purchasing an electric vehicle

Electric cars are greener than petrol or diesel cars as they have zero exhaust emissions, which means they do not emit any harmful exhaust gases or soot in densely populated areas. Air pollution is often described as a public health emergency, with urban air pollution for many UK towns and cities well above safe limits and not improving. It is clear that road transport is the primary contributor of harmful gases and particulate matter and that electrification is a key part of reducing this. Fortunately, we at Wilsons Epsom are EV experts, and stock a range of electric vehicles for you to choose from. Our current EV stock can be found here.

We hope that these New Year's Resolutions will help you become a better car owner in 2022!
