Despite living in the 21st Century, there are still a number of male-dominated industries such as construction, plumbing and motor trade. Here at Wilsons, we are a bit of a phenomenon - a car dealership that is run by women! As a result, we try to do as much as we can to encourage women to become involved in the motor trade to try and break the stranglehold possessed by men in this sector.
We actively take lawful positive action to promote gender equality and strive to employ women in all areas of our business, whether that is in sales, service, hosting, marketing, HR, admin or accounts. Below are a selection of the women we employ at Wilsons.
Karalee Clay - Handover Manager
My name is Karalee and I am the Handover Manager here at Wilsons. I came to the UK from Australia in 2015 and, despite the obvious differences in weather and scenery, I have loved every minute of being here!
I've worked in many different areas of the motor trade and I think it's a passion that has been passed down to me by my Dad who is a mechanic.
The Handover department was created to help pass on passion to every customer buying a car to make it feel like they were buying a brand new car, even if it is used.
When I'm not working hard, I'm out playing the tourist and enjoying the theatre and cinema.
Kirsty Ann Bentley - Motability Sales Executive
My name is Kirsty Ann and I am a Motability specialist here at Wilsons and I can honestly say I enjoy every single day.
I used to be a manager of a pawnbrokers for seven years and after working at Wilsons for just over three months, I realise that I should have made the career move years ago! My hobby brought me into the industry and I haven't looked back.
I have always been into cars and I would say I'm a bit of a petrol-head. As much as I like to get dressed up for nights out, I also love going to car-related events such as Santapod Raceway and Drift Limits.
Daniella Beggins - Peugeot Sales Executive
My name is Dannii and I have been in the motor trade for just over a year now. I enjoy meeting new people and making the process of purchasing a new car easy and exciting!
Before my time here at Wilsons I used to work in a childcare day nursery. I'd never thought about a career in sales before and now I would not look back! Starting as a trainee and working my way up to a Sales Executive has been a great experience and I work with the best team.
I enjoy socialising and spending time with my family and friends. If i'm not on the forecourt with a pack of Haribos, I will be enjoying the sunshine somewhere around the world with a cocktail or two.
Maria Bezants - Renault Sales Executive
My name is Maria and I've gone from selling lipsticks to selling cars - some said that I was having a mid-life crisis!
I am a very proud mum of two as well as a hunger-driven sales person. I have an eighteen year old son and a sixteen your old daughter who takes me all over the UK because she is England's under 16 Badminton Champion.
When I'm not on the road with her, I'm here at Wilsons. I love the buzz of the showroom and everything that goes with it. I get to meet a whole host of customers and share in their excitement with their new purchase. It is my job to ensure that the whole experience is pleasurable and memorable.
Sheila Fernandes - Nissan Sales Executive
My name is Sheila and I have been working in the motor trade for three and a half years now.
Originally, I worked in Wilsons' Contact Centre answering the phones and dealing with customer enquiries. Wilsons gave me the opportunity and support to progress into my current sales role. I have a passion for customer service and I love meeting new people and helping them to find their perfect car!
In my spare time I like to socialise and spend time with my family and friends.
Caleigh O'Driscol - Service Advisor
My name is Caleigh and I started working for Wilsons in 2014 in, what was at the time, the newly formed Contact Centre. My job was to take a range of different calls for the business.
Currently, I work in our main service department as an advisor dealing with five of our eight different franchises. I thoroughly enjoy working as part of the service team here at Wilsons where I learn something new every day.
Outside of work I enjoy catching up with friends over dinner and drinks and spending time with my family in my new home.
Tracey Harper - Fiat Showroom Host
My name is Tracey and I have worked at Wilsons for just over six months now. Previous to working here, I used to work for a charity.
I am a very chatty and bubble person who is always willing to help. I love meeting and greeting customers and helping my Fiat team wherever and whenever I can.
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends which is made a little bit easier when my daughter works at Wilsons as well! When I'm not at work I enjoy mini-breaks away (yes, I am a part-timer!)
Jenny Gilkes - Trainee Management Graduate
My name is Jenny and I have been working at Wilsons for five months now since graduating from the University of Sheffield.
Initially, I wanted to pursue a career in the transport industry, but my unique love for cars drew me to Wilsons.
I enjoy my role because I get to make the customer feel appreciated and special when they are making one of the largest purchases of their lives.
When I'm not at work I enjoy socialising with friends and family and travelling around the UK and Europe.
Brogan Weir - Trainee Handover Specialist
My name is Brogan and I joined Wilsons to pursue a career in the motor trade. I've always had an interest in cars from a young age, following in my Dad's footsteps, who always loved cars!
I hope to progress my career here at Wilsons from my current position as a trainee to a full Handover Specialist, meeting lots of new friends and happy customers along the way.
In my spare time I love to go to the theatre as I've danced since a young age and I enjoy visiting that part of my past again.
